We try to make it full of helpful information which really makes it more like an electronic magazine or ezine. 		May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month For special occasions like prom, weddings, or spring break, having a tan was once considered a necessity. But heading to a tanning bed is just as dangerous as tanning outdoors. Both can have lasting effects on the skin. Sun exposure adds up day after day. It happens whenever someone is outdoors gardening, sailing, skiing, fishing, hiking, or simply walking to and from the car. Sunlight reflects off water, sand, concrete, boat decks and snow. It also reaches below the water's surface. UV rays are present even on cloudy days. Also, some prescription drugs can greatly increase the skin's sensitivity to UV rays. In 1933, Mickey Mouse, an animated cartoon character, received 800,000 fan letters. The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley's gum. It was discovered on a space mission that a frog can throw up. The frog throws up its stomach first, so the stomach is dangling out of its mouth. Then the frog uses its forearms to dig out all of the stomach's contents and then swallows the stomach back down again. 		This patient received bad facial burns from a "strip mall" skin care center. This happened 1 week before her graduation (she was valedictorian of her class, scheduled to give the graduation speech). She came to Dr. Crutchfield for help. It took about 6 months of skilled treatment (steroids, antibiotics, silicone gels, multiple laser correction treatments, topical agents, plus a few other "tricks") but he finally got her back to normal (as evidenced by the after photo). According to the popular definition, it is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month. 		The dermatologist won't see you now Here is an article about dermatology appointment wait times. In a study, the average wait times were 38 days. Doctors' offices in some cities taking much longer: 47 days in Syracuse, N.Y., 48 days in Phoenix, and a whopping 73 days in Boston. Click here.

		What is special about this microscope? It is a revolutionary dermatoscope used for the evaluation of suspicious moles. This instrument allows Dr. Crutchfield to better see the inner structure of the mole, often times eliminating the need for an uncomfortable biopsy. As a general rule of thumb, Dr. Crutchfield recommends that everyone have a baseline comprehensive skin examination at some point in their life. Based on the examination your dermatologist will recommend how often you should have additional exams in the future. The most important thing is to get a prompt evaluation if you have a mole changing in any way (size, color, or shape) or any spot on your skin that bleeds and does not heal in three weeks (without provocation). Also, any person who has had a melanoma should make sure that all of their first-degree relatives have a baseline skin examination.
