What are the signs and symptoms of swimmer's itch?
Within minutes to days after swimming in contaminated water, you may experience tingling, burning, or itching of the skin. Small reddish pimples appear within twelve hours. Pimples may develop into small blisters. Scratching the areas may result in secondary bacterial infections. Itching may last up to a week or more, but will gradually go away.

Is it dangerous to pop zits?
It can lead to some complications. Squeezing pimples can actually push the zit-causing bacteria farther into the skin, causing more redness and swelling. It is also the most common cause of acne scarring.

Thousands of rubber ducks make 15 year journey.
They were toys destined only to bob up and down in nothing bigger than a child's bath - but so far they have floated halfway around the world!

The armada of 29,000 plastic yellow ducks, blue turtles and green frogs, broke free from a cargo ship 15 years ago. Since then they have traveled 17,000 miles, floating over the site where the Titanic sank, landing in Hawaii, and even spending years frozen in an Arctic ice pack. And now they are heading straight for Britain. At some point this summer they are expected to be spotted on beaches in South-West England.

While the ducks are undoubtedly a loss to the bath-time fun of thousands of children, their adventures at sea have proved an invaluable aid to science.

NASA's golden gift to the aliens.

In a few months, NASA scientists and the press will note the passing of the 30th anniversary since the launches of Voyagers I and II. By now both interstellar probes have passed beyond Pluto's orbit and are speeding out toward neighboring star systems, carrying with them copies of the Golden Record, a phonograph record full of images, music and recordings of life on Earth intended for any extraterrestrials who might happen upon the probe and wonder who sent it.

The Alcatraz tour gets an update
The improvements include more stories from inmates, an elevator that gives access to the elderly and disabled and allowed the National Park Service to open another floor of the prison. Plus visitors now enter Alcatraz the same way new inmates did: through the dank shower room where "fresh fish" were hosed off before being issued their jail clothes.

• Honeybees are one of science's great mysteries because they have remained unchanged for 20 million years, even though the world has changed around them.
• Honeybees do not die over the winter. They feed on the honey they collected during the warmer months and patiently wait for spring. They form a tight cluster in their hive to keep the queen and themselves warm.
• Honeybee colonies have unique odors that members flash like identification cards at the hive's front door. All the individual bees in a colony smell enough alike so that the guard bees can identify them.
• The honeybee is not born knowing how to make honey; the younger bees are taught by the more experienced ones.
• In order to produce 1 pound of honey, 2 million flowers must be visited. One bee colony can produce 60 to 100 pounds of honey per year.
• An average worker bee makes only about 1/12 teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
• At the peak of the honey-gathering season, a strong, healthy hive will have a population of approximately 50,000 bees.
• We should appreciate honeybees for their honey and pollination services. 80% of the pollination of the fruits, vegetables and seed crops in the U.S. is accomplished by honeybees.
• The United States has an estimated 211,600 beekeepers.

Do you like yummy food? Try this Strawberry Lemonade recipe:
Strawberry Lemonade
Serves 2

• 1 pint strawberries
• 8 tbsp plus 2 tsp superfine sugar
• 8 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
• Seltzer water

Purée strawberries and 2 teaspoons sugar in a blender. Set out two glasses, and spoon 3 tablespoons of the resulting strawberry purée, 4 tablespoons sugar, and 4 tablespoons lemon juice into each glass. Stir the lemonade and add ice. Top off the glasses with seltzer water. Add more sugar if desired.
