Dr. Crutchfield is the founder and medical director of Crutchfield Dermatology, which is consistently ranked as the top dermatology clinic in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area. He is a considered to be one of the world's foremost authorities when it comes to treating ethnic skin concerns in persons of color. Dr. Crutchfield is also an accomplished laser surgeon having performed over 5,000 laser surgeries, including being one of the pioneers in the use of the Aramis laser for treating acne in persons of color. Dr. Crutchfield is also recognized as one of the top cosmetic dermatologists in the United States having been awarded the Gold and Platinum awards from Botox Cosmetic and Restylane for being one of the most experienced physicians in the country when it comes to their use. Dr. Crutchfield has directed and completed the first and only clinical study evaluating the use on non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, Restylane, in persons of color.
Dr. Crutchfield received his medical degree and a master's degree in molecular biology from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine. Dr. Crutchfield is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is the recipient of many national academic honors and awards including membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical honor society and he was recognized as a National Institute of Health Howard Hughes Minority Medical Scholar. As a medical student and resident, Dr. Crutchfield studied under A. Paul Kelly, M.D. and Pearl Grimes, M.D., two of the pioneers and leading authorities in the care of ethic skin disorders. As a result Dr. Crutchfield's approach for challenging skin care concerns are safe and effective for patients of all skin tones and ethnicities. In fact, Dr. Crutchfield has received a U.S. patent on one of his skin care treatments. Dr. Crutchfield has well over 100 medical publications to his credit and has co-authored a textbook of Dermatology 'A Clinical Atlas of 101 Common Skin Diseases' with the renowned A. Bernard Ackerman, M.D.
Dr. Crutchfield has published and lectured nationally and internationally on a variety of dermatology topics. He has vast national media experience both in print, radio and broadcast. Dr. Crutchfield is the Vice President of the Minnesota Association of Black Physicians, a member of the Dermatology Section of the National Medical Association and a founding board member of the nationally recognized organization 'Find a Black Doctor'. Dr. Crutchfield has been awarded Editor's Award from the Dermatology Nurses Association and the prestigious 'Gold Triangle Award' from the American Academy of Dermatology for his radio show 'Med Chat' for increasing dermatology awareness in the African-American community.
In addition to being a pioneer in clinical dermatology, Dr. Crutchfield is a regular selection in the "Top Doctors" edition of Minneapolis St. Paul magazine and was recently selected as one of the "Best Doctors in America" an honor bestowed on only 4% of all practicing physicians in the United States.
