Its Time For Selphyl
Selphyl is a patented system for the safe and rapid preparation of Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM). Dermatologists and plastic surgeons can use this proven technology to correct the signs of skin aging.
What Is A Selphyl Treatment
Your dermatologist or plastic surgeon collects a small amount of your blood through a patented process, separates and concentrates your platelets and fibrin. The resulting PRFM can be applied to rejuvenate and increase skin volume.
Best of all, this office procedure takes just 20 minutes with no post-procedure downtime.
Its Time For Natural, Lasting Effects of Selphyl
It is thought that Selphyl PRFM addresses a root cause of skin aging by triggering the production of new cells and collagen. As soon as Selphyl PRFM is administered, growth factors are released into the layers of your skin.
Unlike fillers that use various synthetic substances, the Selphyl PRFM uses your natural biology to address skin defects and volume loss.
After the administration of the Selphyl PRFM, patients have seen visible improvement with long lasting effects. Pronounced effects typically occur in approximately three weeks.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM)
- Platelets are viable and intact
- Platelets release biologically active proteins over time
- Cell migration, proliferation and differentiation occurs
Platelets Release growth Factors
- PDGF (Platelet Derived Growth Factors)- Cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production
- FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor)- Tissue repair, cell growth collagen production
- TGF-B (Transforming Growth Factor Beta)- Growth and neogenesis of epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing
- IGF (Insulin Growth Factor)- Regulates Cell Growth
- KGF( Keratinocyte Growth Factor)- Growth of kertinocytes
- EGF (Epithelial Growth Factor)- Promotion of epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing
- VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor)- Promotion of angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing

Read the Q & A below:
You are the first physician to use Selphyl in MN, correct? Are you the only?
Yes I am, At Crutchfield Dermatology we have always taken a great deal of pride in providing the latest most advanced and safest techniques for cosmetic dermatology and skin rejuvenation. The process of platelet rich plasma has been a technique that has been employed in medicine for many years to treat athletic injuries and wounds. It’s just a natural evolution we are now using it to rejuvenate the skin. Currently, I am the only physician however, this technique is on the forefront of medicine and I would imagine in the not too distant future it will be offered by many other physicians in the Twin Cities. One of the most important things to consider is the experience in the technique with the respect to the providing physician.
Why did you decide to offer Selphyl in addition to other fillers?
The process of platelet rich plasma has been a technique that has been employed in medicine for many years to treat athletic injuries and wounds. It’s just a natural evolution we are now using it to rejuvenate the skin. I also really like the natural approach; in fact it is the most natural of all fillers.
How is Selphyl different from other fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane? Does it last longer, work better, cost different?
Sephly is autologous; it harnesses a power of platelets naturally derived from your own blood. Selphy does not contain any animal or synthetic components so there is virtually no risk of any type of allergic reaction. It’s completely naturally, in fact it is the most natural filling agent available because it is derived from your own plasma. It’s essentially you helping you. All indication indicate that it works as well as the other current filling agents. It actually costs about half as much as the current fillers on the market
How is the procedure performed?
The entire process takes about 20 minutes a small aliquot of patients blood is removed. It is then spun down to concentrate the platelet rich plasma. The plasma is then introduced to the unwanted lines on the face. This includes areas on the upper face such as the glabella and forehead, areas of the middle-face such as the peri-orbital lines, cheek augmentation, nasio-labial folds, smile lines and acne scars. It also includes areas on the lower face such as the border of the lips, the lines from the lips to the chin and areas on the chin. Additionally, it can be used to treat dermal-defects such as acne scars, pitting and to rejuvenate the neck.
How soon does one see results and how long do they last?
Patients will see an immediate filling response that will persist 1-3 days. However, after that the plasma areas will be reabsorbed and the platelet rich growth factors will remain, causing increased cell growth and collagen production. The filling action will take place over 1-2 months. Noticeable results appear in about 3-4 weeks. Current reports indicate that it should last at least 1 year, and some reports are saying 1- 2 years.
Any down time or side-effects?
No down time. Possible mild bruising at injection sites that can last for a few days, but can be covered with make-up, if need be.
Who is a good candidate for Selphyl? Who isn’t?
Because this is a natural product and is essentially derived from the patient’s own plasma, anyone with an unwanted line or skin defect is an excellent candidate for Selphyl. Patients who are not good candidates are those who need an immediate correction (because the procedure can take 1-2 months for full development).
What’s the price of one treatment?
Prices start at around $1295. This is enough to treat approximately four areas of the face. The equivalent of 4 CC of Restylane or Juvederm.
