Before & After Venous Lakes Photos
Venous lakes are blue to purple bumps that occur on the face of older patients, favoring the lips and ears. A structural weakening of the vein walls results due to sun exposure and damage over time. As the vessel wall weakens, this allows a dilatation or a slight outpouching of the vessel wall. This is very similar to the outpouching or ballooning seen in the old inner tubes of tires. These blebs are filled with venous (blue deoxygenated) blood giving the bumps there characteristic color.
At Crutchfield Dermatology, we have had very good success treating these lesions with special vascular lasers. Call for appointment: 651.209.3600
