Traction Alopecia

Traction Hair Loss – Traction Alopecia

Hi, this is Dr. Charles Crutchfield clinical professor of dermatology and medical director at Crutchfield Dermatology.

Today we are going to talk about Traction Alopecia. Also known as traction hair loss.

Can Hair Braiding Cause Hair Loss?

Hair that is braided tightly can actually produce hair loss. Especially in children. This presents in a classic pattern that can easily be detected.

Will Hair Regrow?

If a small child has hair loss hair care patterns should be reviewed.  In addition if the hair loss is occuring in the areas of traction or pulling from braiding these practices should be discontinued and the hair regrowth should occur in just a few months.

And that’s what it is on Traction Alopecia or Traction hair loss.
