“Faster Than You Can Cook Asparagus” Origin

Asparagus is typically cooked for a short time, only until it is tender. And apparently this is the way it has been cooked for centuries. That would explain why the Roman emperor Augustus reportedly coined the expression velocius quam asparagi coquantor – “ faster than you can cook asparagus.”
