Hi, this Dr. Charles Crutchfield clinical professor of dermatology and medical director at Crutchfield Dermatology. Today we are going to talk about Mongolian spots.
What Do Mongolian Spots Look Like?
These are very common dark blue-gray round patches seen on the lower back and buttocks of children of color these are harmless and represent a normal variant that we see in all the time.
Are Mongolian Spots Permanent?
The vast majority of these spots if not all of them will completely resolve by age twelve.
They Look Kind of Like Bruises
Because they can sometimes look like bruises doctors may investigate to make sure they are not a sign of abuse. Nevertheless, they are very common and completely harmless, and will disappear over time.
