I hate to admit that I lived in downtown St. Paul for a whole year and only went to Public Kitchen + Bar once. I met up with a couple friends for drinks and remember really enjoying it.
I decided to check it out again a couple weeks ago and was blown away.
My friend and I shared the Goltz’ Spicy Maple Wings, the Public Burger and the Curried Half Chicken.
The wings were the perfect flavor of spicy and sweet and the blue cheese was one of the best I’ve ever had.
The Public Burger has 2 patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, and house pickles on a toasted brioche. I was curious how good this would be because I’ve had arguably some of the best burgers in the Twin Cities. This one can definitely compare.
Lastly, we tried the Curried Half Chicken. When I was younger I really disliked curry, so I often skip over dishes with curry (still thinking I dislike it) only to be pleasantly surprised at how much I actually love it now. This dish is bursting with delicious flavor and the portion size is huge. I would definitely order it again. Overall, the food was incredible and the views overlooking Mears Park are as well. Next time you’re in Lowertown St. Paul I’d highly recommend checking out Public Kitchen + Bar.
