What is biomass power?

Biomass is carbon-, hydrogen-, and oxygen-based, and is obtained from living organisms: that is, plants and plant-derived materials, residues from agriculture or forestry, and the organic component of municipal and industrial wastes.  Biomass can be used for heating, for generating electricity, or can be covered into liquid fuels to meet transportation energy needs.  Biomass is close to a carbon-neutral electric power generation option, as it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during its growth and then emits an equal amount of carbon dioxide when it is processed to generate electricity.
