What happened to this woman’s face?
She had a Liquid Facelift
In this patient we see facial skin changes associated with time, genetics and a lifetime of sun exposure. She was from a small town and getting ready for a class reunion. In this case the high school grouped several years together and at the last one (5 years earlier) she said that many people thought she was her older sister. She told me “I am the YOUNGER of the sisters and I don’t want them to think that again, especially since my sister will be attending, too.” For her we performed a minimally invasive, non-surgical, 1 hour “Liquid FaceLift”
This month’s case of the month is going to be a little bit different only because the term “Liquid Facelift” has so much media coverage lately. Our office has received so many phone calls and emails about the procedure that I thought I would briefly discuss it in case you have patients with similar questions.
Liquid Facelift is a general term that is used for the use of liquid injectables to rejuvenate the face without surgery. I have been using a combination of injectables for several years for this result. Specifically, I use hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, and Juvéderm; muscle relaxers such as abotulinumtoxinA and onabotulinumtoxinA (Dysport and Botox Cosmetic); and injections of platelet-rich-plasma (containing growth factors and cytokines) as both a filling agent and also a rejuvenative agent for the skin.
Liquid Facelifts can be used to correct unwanted frown lines in the glabella, smile lines around the eyes, unwanted lines on the forehead, unwanted nasolabial and marionette lines. I also use filling agents to enhance the lips and lower cheeks. Additionally, the upper cheeks can be treated to accentuate cheek bones. Finally, filling agents can be used to also produce a mini browlift and repair nasal volume-loss defects and facial scars.
The procedure is well tolerated and patients are usually very happy with the results. Many patients will elect to extend and maintain the benefits with alpha hydroxy acid peels, Javani facials, celebrity peels (employing a combination of advanced fluorescent technology and Pixel laser treatments), and Pixel laser treatments for overall skin smoothing and tightening.
Below you will see several pictures of other patients who have had the liquid facelift employing, in varying combinations, many of the injectables discussed above.
