50 year old man presents with a large mass on his left buttock. He reports it has appeared about 4-5 years ago and has been steadily enlarging. At the time of exam the mass extremely firm, and was approximately 8 cm x 4 cm x 4 cm. The patient reports that it has been painful and difficult for him to sit on his right side the past 6 months, which prompted his visit.

Diagnosis: Ossifying fibromyxiod tumor

Dermatopathologic, immunophenotyping and molecular profiles confirmed the diagnosis of the mass as being that of an ossifying fibromyxiod tumor. These are rare tumors that behave in most instances in a benign fashion. This tumor was not malignant. Complete excision of an ossifying fibromyxiod tumor is usually curative. This man’s tumor was surgically remove and he is doing well, without complications, post op x 6 months.
