Case of the Month

Premature baby with an annular, scaling, pustular plaque on her cheek.
What's Your Diagnosis?
Diagnosis: Tinea Faciei
I was going through my slides and found this interesting case from my residency and thought I’d share it with my colleagues. Here is a baby I was consulted on in the NICU. She was born at 34 weeks and developed this ‘rash’ 12 days after birth. Upon investigation, I discovered that she was given a special, limited, 2-hour pass to leave the hospital and participate in a special cultural ceremony, organized by a community spiritual leader, celebrating her birth, at her home, with dozens of friends and relatives and several loving animals, including both cats and dogs......... I submit that this might be one of the youngest kids, with KOH positive, Tinea Faciei ever reported.
Treatment: ketoconazole cream, BID x 7 days provided complete resolution
