Diagnosis: Fordyce's spots
Fordyce's spots are small, painless, raised, cream to yellow-orange colored papules, 1-5mm in diameter, that may appear most commonly on the inner surface and vermilion border of the lips. Fordyce spots are also observed on the genitalia, and, less commonly, on the areola. They are a form of sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any disease or illness. Some believe them to be an ectopic sebaceous gland, but their common occurrence have lead others to assert that they are just a variation of normal. They are also known as Fordyce granules. They are of cosmetic concern only. Fordyce spots are non-infectious and sometimes resolve spontaneously. Vaporizing laser treatment may be helpful if they are of cosmetic concern.
