What Is Botox Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. Although BOTOX® Cosmetic, at very high doses, is considered a toxin, there have been no serious side effects reported from its use to treat wrinkles. To treat wrinkles, we use a dilution 3 million times less that those that cause toxicity. How Does Botox Work?

A few drops of BOTOX® Cosmetic are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscle relaxes, the skin overlying the muscle smoothes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.

What Creates A Wrinkle

Many wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin by making the same expression thousands of times. These "expression lines", often called frown lines or crow's feet, are due to the contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area. We have known for years that surgically cutting that muscle will improve the wrinkle.

Is A Botox Injection Painful or Hurt?

When BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected there is an initial minor sting for a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.

 

Where Can Botox Be Injected

The most common areas for the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic are frown lines between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the crow's feet. On occasion, some other areas may be treated as well.

 

Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Affect Other Facial Expressions or Create Numbness?

BOTOX® Cosmetic doesn't affect the nerve, so there is no numbness in the area of the injection. Also, the effect of the BOTOX® Cosmetic is only in the immediate area of the injection. Therefore, the muscles related to other expressions are unaffected.

How Long Does Botox Last?

The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic usually last three to five months, at which time another injection is required. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic may begin to last longer, sometimes up to six to eight months.

How Safe Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used safely and successfully in ophthalmology and neurology since the 1980's, and for wrinkle therapy since 1991. In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, the only possible side effects are temporary and localized to the area of injection.

Is Botox For Me?

There are a few considerations regarding BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. The treatment is not inexpensive, so cost can be a factor. Some patients will have treatments only before big events (weddings, class reunions, holiday photos, etc.) so the cost may only be a one time consideration. Other patients may elect to maintain a wrinkle free appearance by treating 2-3 times per year. Patients who are pregnant, nursing, have an allergy to eggs (BOTOX® Cosmetic comes packed in an egg (albumin) protein for stability), have a known allergy to BOTOX® Cosmetic, or have certain neurological diseases should not be treated. In this age of hectic and stressful lifestyles, it is nice to have an option to brighten ones appearance. Treatment Performance

Dr. Crutchfield performs all Botox Cosmetic and Restylane/Perlane and Juvederm treatments personally. For other cosmetic treatments, such as Pixel laser treatments, Lipodissolve Ultra, AFT light treatments, he may provide a combined treatment with his highly trained staff or have a skilled staff member perform the treatment(s)completely. Dr. Crutchfield offers a money back guarantee for the treatment of the frown lines in the glabella (only) with a combination of Botox Cosmetic and Restylane if a patient uses the treatment amounts that he recommends.

Money back guarantee policy for Botox Cosmetic and Restylane

This policy is valid for the treatment of the glabella (area between the eyebrows) only. Not valid with any other offers. The policy applies to the treatment of the glabella only with a recommended amount of Botox Cosmetic and Restylane by Dr. Crutchfield. If not satisfied at one month a second treatment will be given at no charge. Second treatment must be given to qualify. At two months, if still not happy, the glabella amount, minus 75.00 consultation fee, will be refunded. This policy is subject to change at anytime.

Botox Refund Policy.This pertains to the Botox treatment of the glabellar area only. If the treatment is not working at the 1 month mark, Dr. Crutchfield will do another treatment, at no charge. At the 2 month mark if the glabellar treatment is still not working, the patient can be refunded the cost of the initial Botox (only) treatment.
