What Is This Bump/Lump Underneath My Skin?
Lipomas are common lesions seen primarily on the trunk but they may occur anywhere. They are usually solitary but may be multiple and range in size from a few millimeters to 20 or more centimeters. Most lipomas are painful when compressed. There is a familial inherited form, although many people will develop a lesion or two of lipomas without any family history. Pathologically they represent balls of fat (adipose tissue). Removal is indicated if they are causing recurrent pain and/or if they are cosmetically unacceptable.
